Design Contest For A Great Cause

Social Design Network Design21 announced their latest design competition this week; the challenge - to design the official logo for “Stories from the Field: The United Nations Documentary Film Festival”.

Presented by Media Communications Association International, New York Chapter (MCA-I NY) in partnership with the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI) and The New School, The Stories from the Field Film Festival was organized in 2004 as the United Nations entered its 60th year. Its mission is to screen films that reflect the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, which pledge to:

-Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
-Achieve universal primary education
-Promote gender equality and empower women
-Reduce child mortality
-Improve maternal health
-Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
-Ensure environmental sustainability

Previously the Festival has used a combination of logos and graphic elements to promote the initiative - consisting of the New York Media Communications Association logo, the United Nations logo and a separate film festival title. The winning logo will win $5000. It is exciting that the UN has opened up this challenge to the worldwide talent of design!

The new logo looks to represent the festival, rather than the organizations that present it and will be used on the festival’s calls for entries, programs, posters, flyers, stationery, collateral materials and the website. It would also be used to brand the various satellite festivals that are in formation.
